Whenever the term excellence is used, people customarily relate the word to wealth, status, and achievement. As a society we become victims to the traps of materialistic gains, and we tend to idolize those who have accumulated an abundance of fame and fortune. Although these are indeed some forms of excellence, the most important standard of excellence derives from our personal standard of living.
Obtaining a true standard of excellence has nothing to do with the size of our bank accounts, or how many people recognize our name, however, it has everything to do with how we choose to live our lives and the example we choose to convey to others.
Here are 7 Ways to Obtain A Standard of Excellence:
1. IN ALL THINGS… DO YOUR BEST
This may sound like a cliche, but few people understand its power. Don’t arrive late to work, and be the first person to walk out the door. Always be on time, and don’t measure yourself to others trying to be the best worker. Just become the best worker you possibly can, and others will soon try to measure up to you.
2. CLEANLINESS IS INDEED NEXT TO GODLINESS
This has nothing to do with being a neat freak, however, we should be mindful of taking care of what God has blessed us with. Your house or car doesn’t have to be spotless, but taking the time to care for your possessions shows a standard of responsibility.
3. LOOK YOUR BEST
No, you don’t have to wear a suit or dress to Walmart, however, as a responsible adult, it is imperative that you always look presentable. When you step out of your house, what you wear represents your beliefs, your self-esteem, and yourself.
4. SHOW RESPECT/GIVE RESPECT
Everyone is not going to agree with us at all times. In addition, there will be times when our beliefs and values are publicly challenged. Human nature causes us to become aggressive in our defense, but we have a standard of excellence, and by showing respect for other people’s opinion, we are giving respect to ourselves.
5. LIVE HONESTLY
This should be a no-brainer, but unfortunately people usually see dishonesty as the easy way out. The truth is, total honesty is the best way to a worry free life.
6. LIVE YOUR WORD
It’s one thing to be dishonest, it’s a whole new ball game when we don’t keep our word. Being dishonest is lying about something from our past… not keeping our word is lying about something we’re going to do in our future. When we give our word that we will be present, we should be accountable.
7. LOVE THY SELF
Don’t waste any time beating yourself up!!! Give yourself a ‘pat-on-the-back’ for the things you do well. Celebrate yourself for all your good days! You’ve done some good things throughout your life, so compliment yourself… because your good far outweighs your bad.
Obtaining a Standard of Excellence is how we choose to carry ourselves through our everyday lives.
Let’s find our next level, and make the choice today!
