“The nature of all things is to grow!”
I first heard this from a man named Jim Rohn, who is widely considered the greatest motivational speaker of all time. I quickly related that statement to our physical growth from birth, but I also understood that Mr. Rohn was referring to our mental growth.
Our mental growth is essential to becoming responsible, successful adults… unfortunately, most of us stop growing mentally shortly after high school.
Now when I mention ‘mental growth’… it’s more than just taking some classes and getting an education.
TRUE GROWTH COMES FROM WISDOM!
Without wisdom… there is no true growth!
There are two ways in which we gain WISDOM:
1. EDUCATION 2. LIFE LESSONS
The first is self explanatory. We gain knowledge from whichever form of formal education we choose. This type of wisdom is deliberate, and we expect to learn and improve ourselves in the process.
The second however, is much more complex, due to the fact that our life lessons are not deliberate… at least not from us. The majority of us fail to gain wisdom from our life lessons, because we aren’t expecting to learn or improve ourselves in those situations.
Most life lessons are not pleasant, causing us to become defensive… thus missing the lesson. As a result… repeated mistakes often occur, and these mistakes can last a lifetime until we’re left with depression and regret!
But please don’t be mislead… our life lessons are just as important as the education we deem so essential for our success.
No matter how many mistakes we make, no matter how many crosses we must bear, no matter how many times it takes us to ‘get it right’… the lessons we learn from living a full life, are the lessons that will give us wisdom!
AND WISDOM IS THE BASIS OF GROWTH!
