3 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A CAREER.

When we are children, we tell our parents what we want to become when we grow up.

When we are teenagers, our parents want to know if we have a plan, or any clue as to what we want to become.

When we become adults… we choose what we want to become, and at some point we’ll question if we’re happy about what we’ve become.

I believe we all have second-guessed ourselves regarding our career choices.

“Should I have gone into another industry?”

“Maybe I should have chosen another major.”

“Perhaps I should have stayed in school.”

Nevertheless, at some point we all will have to make a choice on a career… and stick to it!!!

But there are 3 things we must consider when choosing our career.

1.  CAN YOU SEE YOURSELF DOING THIS FOR 20 + YEARS?

Okay, no one can tell the future, but try to envision yourself driving to work EVERYDAY!  Whichever career path you choose… you have to realize that this is how you will make a living day in and day out!  So you better make sure you choose something you LOVE TO DO!

2.  WHAT TYPE OF PEOPLE WORK IN YOUR INDUSTRY?

It’s impossible to choose who you work with, therefore you have no control over who your co-workers will be.  That doesn’t mean you can’t do a little research before taking that leap.  Every industry creates its own atmosphere!  Your job is to find out if your personality fits that atmosphere, because bad people can ruin a good job.

3.  HOW HIGH IS YOUR CEILING?

If you’re going to invest 20 + years into a career, make sure there’s a latter that stretches 20 + years.  Meaning, make sure there is opportunity for growth within your chosen industry.  One of the main reasons why people second guess their careers, is because they’ve spent year after year doing the same job, the same way, for the same pay.  Remember:  The nature of all work is to build!
