We all have jobs… because we have to eat!
Like it or not… those jobs come with co-workers!
People underestimate the influence that co-workers can have. Fact is… for the average employee working 9 to 5 with a little overtime, more time is spent with co-workers than family and friends.
We can choose our jobs… but we can’t choose our co-workers! So in the spirit of the American workforce…
HERE ARE 3 BENEFITS… AS WELL AS 3 DRAWBACKS TO WORKING WITH CO-WORKERS.
BENEFIT #1: MENTORING
As a new employee, co-workers can be better mentors than bosses. They can show us the ropes, ease the learning curve, and teach us how to become more efficient in our jobs. The best mentor for a job is the person who does that job everyday!
BENEFIT #2: DIVERSITY
Remember, we can’t choose our co-workers… who come from all walks of life to work together everyday. Interacting with people from different backgrounds can be an educational experience, and we can experience and learn different aspects of life outside of the workplace.
BENEFIT #3: GREAT ATMOSPHERE
We all know that it can get really monotonous repeating the same job day after day after day after day. It takes different personalities from different co-workers to create those fun days, spontaneous moments, and lasting memories that make the workplace seem a little less routine.
Unfortunately… it’s not all positive when it comes to co-workers.
DRAWBACK #1: DISTRACTIONS
In every department, regardless of the industry… there are one or more co-workers who will distract you from what you’re supposed to be doing. These co-workers always have a story that is so amazing… it will take 30 minutes to an hour for them to tell you. No matter what you’re doing… they expect you to stop and listen.
DRAWBACK #2: SURROUNDED BY PESSIMIST
Beware of this employee! No matter what the company views as positive, this co-worker’s view of it is negative… and can’t wait to go around telling every employee about it. These people complain about every aspect of the job, and can’t stand showing up for work everyday. What’s worst is that they won’t stop complaining to you… until you start agreeing with them. Then they’ll find something else to complain about.
DRAWBACK #3: BEING PULLED DOWN
Remember, we can’t choose our co-workers, and in this economy, people with different levels of education are working on the same jobs. Many employees have bosses and co-workers who have less education, but in these times… we all have to do what we have to do in order to survive. But we must be careful in these hard times not to become influenced by co-workers with no ambition, no sense of work ethic, and no direction… working jobs that offer no career growth. Have you ever worked with someone who says the same things, and does the same things… everyday? These co-workers will be doing the same thing ten years from now that they’re doing today, and if you’re not careful, you’ll find yourself being pulled down doing the same things ten years from now! DON’T LET OTHERS AVERT YOU FROM PURSUING YOUR GOALS!
